I am thrilled to embark on this journey as the newly appointed Vice President of the UK Black Pharmacist Association. It's an honor to serve in this capacity, and I can't wait to embark on this journey together with all of you.
About Me:
Allow me to introduce myself.
My name is Abundance, I am a dedicated pharmacist and transformation strategy manager with a passion for the community, healthcare and empowerment and encouragement of women.
Throughout my career, I have faced numerous challenges related to both my age and my race. As a young black woman navigating through the system, I often found myself confronting biases and stereotypes that affected my perception of the pharmacy profession and those who operate within it. I have both witnessed and experienced, the disparities that marginalized groups face in operating within this industry but one thing I have found both comforting and concerning in this journey is that the disparities I encountered were not unique to me. Many young black pharmacists faced and are facing similar struggles, whether it be in accessing opportunities for advancement, feeling represented within the profession or being simply heard.
Finding myself within my journey, despite of these obstacles, is an ongoing pursuit however I remain determined to make a difference in the field of pharmacy.
Vision for the Future:
As Vice President of the UK Black Pharmacists Association, my primary goal is to champion diversity, equity, and inclusion within the pharmacy sector. I firmly believe that every individual, regardless of their race or age, should have equal opportunities to thrive and succeed in their careers.
To achieve this vision, I plan to focus on several key initiatives:
Advocacy and Representation I believe it's crucial for pharmacists from diverse backgrounds to have a seat at the table. Diversity is our strength, and it's essential that the voices and experiences of Black pharmacists are represented and celebrated within our association and beyond. I'm committed to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued, heard, and supported in their journey and I will work to ensure that the voices of Black pharmacists are heard and represented in all levels of of decision-making within the profession, from policymaking to professional organizations. By promoting diversity in leadership roles and fostering mentorship opportunities, we can create a more inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and empowered.
Empowerment I believe in empowering pharmacists of Black heritage to thrive in their careers, whether it's through mentorship programs, professional development opportunities, or advocacy initiatives. By nurturing talent and providing support, we can create a vibrant community of pharmacists who are equipped to tackle the unique challenges facing our profession.
Impact Ultimately, our goal is to make a meaningful impact on the profession for our community. I believe in the power of collaboration and collective action. By partnering with other organizations, stakeholders, and community leaders, we can amplify our efforts and drive meaningful change within the pharmacy profession and beyond. By actively engaging with local communities and partnering with organizations that serve marginalized populations.
Continuous Learning and Growth The field of pharmacy is constantly evolving, and it's essential for us to stay informed and adapt to new challenges and opportunities. I'm committed to fostering a culture of lifelong learning within our association, where members can exchange knowledge, share best practices, and collaborate on innovative solutions to pressing healthcare issues.
Together, we have the power to influence a future where diversity is celebrated, equity is prioritized, and inclusion is the norm. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve as your Vice President, and I look forward to working alongside each and every one of you to make our vision a reality.
